I am a normal middle-aged programmer from a middle-class background. I am Mexican, I don't do drugs, I don't smoke, and I don't drink. I work every day, hold a degree, and have no illnesses or disabilities. Yet, I realize that life is very difficult, and to achieve a dignified retirement, I need all the help I can get.
I have calculated that I need $150k to pay off my mortgage, $150k for long-term investment (with a 10% rate of return), and retire in 30 years. However, my plan is not foolproof; my parents may fall ill, my career may stall, inflation may increase, and all of that stresses me out a lot.
I'm not ashamed to ask for help because I know there are people with more money than they could ever spend, and there are also people who understand my situation.
